Publishing an update

Key Benefits

  • Publishing updates reduce time spent in meetings discussing progress updates and ensure everyone is literally on the same page.
  • Maintain cross-functional alignment by having the entire team jump in and add their updates.
  • Improve transparency and communication within your organization based on current data and insights.

Best practice

According to 2021 ProductBoard Remote Product Management & Collaboration Survey, 61% of the 400+ surveyed product managers are spending more time in meetings now. This doesn’t always lead to better communication and most are finding that they are spending more time managing stakeholders now that day-to-day interactions do not take place.

In the State of Product Leadership Survey by Pendo in Dec 2020, of 600+ product leaders surveyed product delivery is the top metric of success for product leaders. Revenue came second. In the eyes of product leaders, success is about keeping promises to customers and stakeholders.

To support both these recent findings, we recommend using enform.io to send weekly (minimum every 2 weeks) updates to a broader audience within your organization.

How to quickly create an update

Add your commentary

So much insight and commentary is typically trapped within a Product Leader’s head, that adding your commentary can help explain why numbers have gone in a certain direction, or provide confidence that product delivery is on track. Adding your commentary is also an opportune time to ask for support and feedback from a broad audience too.

When composing an update you can add your commentary, along with basic formating.

Include and update additional information

The panel on the right is there to help ensure you’re not writing your updates from a blank canvas every time. The information in the Goal Panel presents the latest data on your goal and acts as a shortcut to any metrics and reports.

Epic Summary

Including an epic summary in your update can help you and your stakeholders gain confidence that everything is on track.

To include the Epic Summary, just click the ‘Include Epic Summary’ button on the right.

Metric Summary

Including a metric summary in your update can help be transparent on the current state of play and how you’re tracking towards your objective.

To include the Metric Summary, just click the ‘Include Metric Summary’ button on the right.

Metrics can be quickly updated by clicking on the metric tile and adding the current number.

Task Summary

Including a task summary in your update can outline the major tasks outstanding towards reaching your objective.

To include the Task Summary, just click the ‘Include Task Summary’ button on the right.

Save and Publish

Save as Draft

As you’re composing your update save a draft often!

Publish

Once you’ve finished putting together your update you can publish your update to post via various mechanisms.

Email:

When sending to the Email Recipients you are sending to the Email Recipients for the Team. Email is a great way to get in front of a controlled list of people, and the information can typically be consumed at the recipient’s leisure.

You can add a list of email addresses by going to the Email Recipients page within a team and adding a list. This can be a list of just email addresses, or just copy and paste a list from Gmail / Outlook.

Slack:

Rather than continuously manage an email list within enform.io, you can also post updates to a Slack channel. This can be an even easier way of ensuring everyone on the team, and/or broader audience is always in the know as to what’s going on.
